Ceramic Tile :
Ceramic tile is a natural product made up of clay,
minerals and water. Ceramic tile
comes in two forms – glazed and unglazed.
Glazed Tile :
Glazed ceramic tile is a popular choice for your
interior floors and walls and offers unlimited
decorating possibilities. The glazed tiles have a
special ceramic coating that is applied to the body
of the
tile which gives the tile its color and finish.
Unglazed Tile :
There is no glazing or any other coating applied to
the tile. The color is the same on the
face of the tile as it is on the back resulting in
very durable tiles that do not show the effects of
heavy
traffic. The most common unglazed tiles are the red
quarry tiles or the granite looking porcelain
ceramic
tiles used in heavy commercial areas.
Porcelain Tile :
They are denser and less porous than ceramic tile
and highly resistant to moisture,
stains, bacteria, odors and even harsh cleaners. For
homeowners, porcelain tile is especially resistant
to staining, scratches, fading and is available in
both polished and matte finishes. Porcelain tiles
also
come in a wide variety of sizes, colors and
textures.
Porcelain tiles come in either a glazed porcelain or
a through-body porcelain tile. Through-body
porcelain tiles have the same colors all the way
through so if they get chipped or scratched the
color will
not change. Glazed porcelain tiles are similar to
glazed ceramic tile. They have a design layer
(glaze) on
top of the tile body that is a different color and
will be noticeable if chipped.
Natural Stone Tiles :
These are products cut from solid stone blocks from
stone quarries around the
world. For this reason no two pieces are exactly the
same. They are normally cut in 12”x 12” squares,
however other sizes are available. Natural stone
offers magnificent potential for use on floors or
walls
that will remain durable and aesthetically pleasing
for a lifetime.
